Sadie Townsend is known by all as The Ice Princess and she’s worked hard to earn her reputation. Her father, a now-incarcerated Drug Lord, has kept her under his thumb her whole life and she’s learned enough from living in his world to give everyone the cold shoulder. But one inebriated night, she shows the Real Sadie to the undercover agent she knows is investigating her father, the handsome Hector Chavez, and he knows he’ll stop at nothing to have her.

Hector makes one (huge) mistake; he waits for Sadie to come to him. Tragedy strikes and Sadie’s got a choice, she can retreat behind her Ice Fortress or she can embrace the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch World. Guided by Hector, the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch and her new gay roommates, Buddy and Ralphie, Sadie negotiates a life out from under her father’s thumb, a life that includes poison, arson and learning how to make s’mores.

This is the most intense plot of the Rock Chick series. Every heroine in all the previous books has been kidnapped. With this novel, the reader is thrown into the aftermath of Sadie's brutal rape at the beginning of Chapter 1. This is made more horrific because Sadie had asked for help from Lee's agency earlier that day. Strangely, the author tells the reader what Hector was doing that night, but Hector never tells Sadie, which leads to another problem later on.

Although Hector can be caring, he is often verbally aggressive with Sadie. This is a 26 year old woman who lost her mother at a young age, who has just been sexually assaulted and beaten, and whose crime boss father has just been sent to jail. To say she is fragile is an understatement. Sadie feels tainted by her father's world and her relationship with Hector is complicated by the fact that they shared an ugly incident (caused by Hector) and that he helped bring down her father. It is surprising then, that Hector is so mean with his words.

“Mujer, you’re gonna have to learn, pretty effin’ quick, to trust me. I’m not like the people you know, the society bit€he$, the a$$h*les your father recruited."

“This is your gig, Sadie. I can’t help you. You’re gonna have to figure it out, and fast. I’m not walkin’ on eggshells wonderin’ what effin’ reaction you’re gonna have to everything I say. I’m gonna say this once so pay attention. I’m not passin’ the time here, enjoyin’ a sweet, hot piece for the eff of it."

One scene in particular is unforgivable. A month after her rape (the amount of time alloted by Hector) they commenced sexual relations. At NO point is there any any discussion of contraception or of her being at risk of sexually transmitted diseases. After their second time having sex, Hector bursts forth with this:

“At least tell me you’re on the pill,” Hector finished, and the wound intensified ..." What??? The man-ho has unprotected sex with a recently raped victim and this is his way of dealing with the contraception talk??? This was the final straw for me.

Luckily Luke has a small role and helps out with the levity. "You got a choice, babe,” Luke said, and my eyes turned to him when I realized he was talking to me. “You can stay here and get skanked or you can go out tonight with Hector and me. We’ll probably get shot at but I’m thinkin’ it’s the better choice.”

Ralphie and Buddy make fabulous secondary characters.

3.5-4 stars

Expectations. I normally don't go into books with them, but I had read that this book was very angsty and I was so excited to read it. Well...... it really wasn't all that angsty. Maybe the first 10% or so? After that not so much. And while I still enjoyed this book a lot, I was a bit let down because of the expectations I had going into this book.

This book is about Hector and Sadie. Sadie is the ice queen and daughter of a drug lord and Hector is the agent who brought her father down. Hector and Sadie were almost a thing, and then Hector made a mistake and expected Sadie to come back to him. Sadie finds herself in trouble and that's when Hector comes to the rescue.

This story has a very brutal beginning and while it was a lot, I loved that aspect of it. The rest of the book was sweet but a tad bit too long (as is per Kristen Ashley's style) which I normally don't mind, but in the 60-70% I found myself skimming. A very sweet ending that I think lots of readers will love. Actually I think readers will love the WHOLE book. My angst expectations held me back a bit to a like and not a love.
This KA book is such a heartbreaker in so many ways. The h, Sadie, looks like a fairy princess but her father is a really bad guy. Her mother left when Sadie was eleven and she has not been seen since. Because Sadie's father is a crime boss, her life has been stifled and she has developed a cold, ice princess persona. The H, Hector, was undercover in her father's organization and was primarily responsible for getting him thrown into prison. Now she is unprotected and some very bad things happen to her one night. That's the setup for this story, which is really pretty good.

Here's the part I dislike, and it is a trope I hate. Hence the one star off. If I have read this correctly, the H has a thing for the h. She is drunk one night and starts kissing the H. He then says something about her slumming with him, and she interprets that as him seeing her as a society sl*t. So she freezes up. After that is when her dad goes to prison, but H still supposedly has a thing for her. And of course, we then find out that the H has been smexing LOTS of women in the meantime. So many that when at a bar together, she actually meets one of those women who gives her a friendly warning about him, calling him a dawg. And that the other woman was with him 6 weeks ago, which coincides with the very bad thing that happened to the h.

My question is, and always has been, this - if the H is waiting for the h to make her move (which he said he was) then WHY do these guys nail as many women as they can in the meantime? They've known each other about 2 years or so. So OK, before they have even kissed I can understand it. But the H says he has been waiting for her for a long time. So again, my question is why can't they actually WAIT? The excuse given is that they weren't together then, so the h shouldn't feel bad. Right.

Other than this issue, the story was really good. I hope you'll like it if you give it a chance.
